What Chris Aldous collects, why, who else handles it, and how to have it deleted.
Who this policy is from
This policy explains how Chris Aldous handles personal information collected through this website. It applies to this site and to the forms, accounts, bookings and orders offered on it.
Where this site is operated on our behalf by a technology provider, that provider handles information only on our instructions and never for its own purposes.
What we collect
We collect only what we need for what you asked us to do, and we do not require you to give us information that is not necessary for it.
Under the privacy laws that use them, the categories below cover identifiers (such as your name, email address, phone number and postal address), internet activity (how you move around this site), and, where they apply to what you send us, commercial information and inferences. We do not collect biometric information, and we do not ask for information about your race, religion, health, politics, union membership or sexual orientation.
What you tell us in a form. When you fill in a form on this site we collect what you type into it: typically your name, email address, phone number, and whatever you write in your message. Depending on the form, this may also include a postal address, the service or product you are asking about, your preferred way to be contacted, or answers to questions we ask.
Payment. When you buy something, card details are entered on our payment provider's secure page and go directly to them. We receive confirmation that the payment succeeded, the amount, and the brand and last four digits of the card. We never see or store your full card number, and we never store your security code. We do keep a record of what you bought.
Messages and calls. If you contact us by phone, text or chat, we keep a record of that exchange so we can follow up and so we know what was already discussed.
Automatically. Basic technical information your browser sends: IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view and the site that referred you. See our Cookie Policy for what is stored on your device and how to control it.
How the site is used. We record how visitors move through this site — pages viewed, links clicked, how far down a page people read — so we can see which parts work and which do not. This is about the page, not about you personally, and we do not use it to build a profile of you.
Why we use it
- To answer your inquiry and do the thing you asked for — a reply, a booking, an order, an application.
- To take and confirm payment, and to keep the financial records we are required to keep.
- To send you information about what you signed up for, and, where you have agreed to it, news and offers. Every marketing message includes a way to stop receiving them.
- To keep this site working, secure, and free of abuse and fraud.
- To understand which parts of the site are useful, in aggregate.
- To meet legal obligations and to establish or defend legal claims.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Automated and AI processing
Some of what happens to your information is automatic, and you should know where.
Screening of messages. Messages sent through this site are screened automatically before they reach us — including by an artificial intelligence system — so that genuine inquiries get through and unwanted bulk messages do not. The screening reads what you wrote and decides only whether your message reaches our inbox. A person reads every message we act on, and if the screening gets it wrong your message can be released by hand.
No training on your information. We do not permit the providers of any artificial intelligence system we use to train their models on your information.
No solely automated decisions. Nothing here makes a decision about you that produces a legal or similarly significant effect without a person involved.
Who else handles it
We do not run every part of this ourselves. Companies we engage handle pieces of it on our behalf, under contract, acting only on our instructions and never for their own purposes. By category, they are the providers who:
- host this website and store its data;
- deliver our email;
- keep this site working and free of automated abuse and spam;
- supply the fonts, and the content-delivery networks that serve the page to you;
- provide the artificial intelligence systems described above.
- measure how the site is used, so we can improve it;
- process payments and, where we ship, carry the order to you;
We also disclose information where the law requires it, where it is necessary to protect someone's safety, or to establish or defend legal rights. If our business is sold or reorganized, information may transfer with it, and this policy continues to apply until you are told otherwise.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. If you would like the current list of our providers by name, ask us and we will give it to you.
How long we keep it
We keep information for as long as we need it for the purpose it was collected for, and then we delete it or irreversibly anonymize it.
- Inquiries and messages: kept while the matter is open and for a reasonable period afterward for our records.
- Anonymized information — identifiers destroyed, with no way to reverse it — may be kept indefinitely, because it is no longer personal information.
- Order and payment records: kept for seven years, because tax and accounting rules require it.
Your rights and choices
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- tell you what personal information we hold about you, and why;
- correct it if it is wrong;
- delete it;
- give you a copy in a portable form;
- stop or limit a particular use;
- withdraw consent you previously gave.
Depending on where you live you may have these as legal rights — including under the California Consumer Privacy Act and, if you are in the UK or EU, the UK GDPR and GDPR. You have the right not to be treated differently for exercising any of them, and we will not deny you service, charge you a different price, or give you a lesser experience because you did.
To exercise any of them, use the contact details at the end of this policy. We may need to confirm who you are before we act, so that we do not hand your information to someone else. We answer within the time the law allows, and normally much sooner.
Marketing. You can unsubscribe from any marketing email using the link in it. Where this site sends text messages, reply STOP to stop them and HELP for help; message and data rates may apply.
Tracking. You can control cookies and similar technologies through your browser — see our Cookie Policy. Where your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a request to opt out of any sale or sharing of your information.
Children
This site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Where our services are for children — a class, a team, a camp, a program, a school — a parent or guardian provides the child's information to us, and we use it only to run the activity they enrolled the child in and to reach the parent or guardian. If you believe a child has given us information directly, tell us and we will delete it.
Security
We protect information with encryption in transit and at rest, restricted internal access, and monitoring for faults and abuse. No system is perfectly secure. If something happens that affects your information, we will tell you and the relevant authorities as promptly as the law requires.
Where your information is handled
We operate in the United States, and information collected through this site is processed there. If you are outside the United States, using this site means your information is transferred to a country whose data protection laws may differ from your own. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for those transfers.
Changes to this policy
We update this policy as our practices change. The date at the top is when the current version took effect. Where a change materially affects how we use your information, we will make that clear rather than relying on you to notice.
